Ringu (The Ring) (1998)

Ringu (The Ring) (1998)

Country: Japan

Director:  Hideo Nakata

Main Stars: Nanako Matsushima, Miki Nakatani, Yuko Takeuchi

Storyline:  A mysterious video if watch is murdering people

Review (Spoils): Before the successful movie The Ring there was the original Ringu.  Reiko Asakawa (Nanako Matsushima) is concerned as one of her nieces died of sudden heart failure with her face twisted in unreal features. After investigating she tracks down how a video tape if watched will curse including everyone that was with her niece. Somewhere along her son Yoichi (Rikiya Otaka) watches the tape and her ex husband Ryuji helps track down the curse of the video tape.

The acting in the film is very well done and actually the Japanese version tells more of the story (the well and the only strange daughter Sadako) than the remake. This is a great haunting film and this opened the doors of the hair over the eyes walking girl in blurriness. Which so damn films copied and are still coping (please stop!).

Rating: Ringu was a great film and the remake is also not bad so that alone means good storyline. I recommend this film and if possible try to watch this one first before its remake.

7/10 Beers!
