Sleepaway Camp (1983)
Director: Robert Hiltzik
Main Stars: Felissa Rose, Jonathan Tiersten, Karen Fields, Katherine Kamhi,
Storyline: After a horrible accident Angela becomes shy and awkward. She and her protective cousin Ricky go to Camp Arawak and it will never be the same again.
Review (Spoils): This movie got lost in the millions of slasher film that were released in the 80s but this one is a gem in its own way. Yes the acting is not the greatest but it holds some of the most classic scenes in the 80s horror genre. We have boiled flesh, arrows, knives and axes. But some of the scenes that stand out are the bee hive, curling iron and of course the ending of the film. (Which still till this day is disturbing and makes the film worth it). Yeah for Camp Arawak!
Now the downside is cousin Ricky (Jonathan Tiersten) really you weight 110 wet and you’re the toughest kids alive. The mouthiness from him gets annoying fast in this film. The lame acting and the stupid baseball scene left the film a bit dry and boring but the killing scenes but the oddness of Angela (Felissa Rose) and the skankiness of Judy (Karen Fields) and Meg (Katherine Kamhi ) makes up for it.
Rating: Not the greatest movie out there but it holds its own with its uniqueness thanks to Angela (Felissa Rose ) and the strangeness that Robert Hiltzik brings to the film. The ending is one of the strangest endings known in horror film history so that alone holds the film up.
