Audition (Odishon) (1990)
Director: Takashi Miike
Main Stars: Ryo Ishashi, Eihi Shiina, Tetsu Sawaki
Storyline: A man just loses his wife so he decides to screen girls as an audition to meet a new wife. He falls for one woman and she is not that she claims to be.
Review (Spoils): A widower (Ryo Ishashi ) and his friend who is a film director decide to screen women for a fake film so that he can find the woman of his dreams. So they hold auditions for the part and lovely women come in and cast out for the part. He becomes fascinated with one lady (Eihi Shiina) in general she is very quiet, very pretty and nuts behind closed doors. Asami (Eihi Shiina ) seems to be the quiet and gentle type but in truth she has some serious issues and has been left alone sociably for way too long. She lives in an apartment all by herself, no furniture and only a sack and a telephone. After doing some background checking on his new love things start to not match up. The ballet that she used to work at burnt down, the old bar she worked at the owner was found dismembered and she is a very jealous woman.
She finds a picture of his dead wife and goes into a rage which leads the film to some serious and shocking moments of the film. It involves drugs, cutting body parts with wire saw, lots of needles and some things that just should not be shown. Over the top torture and shock.
Rating: This film is awesome. At first I was not sure where it was heading and then it went full speed in the weird and “oh my god that’s messed up”. The film is not for the weak of heart and it does involve some graphic torture but the lead up of the film makes you wonder about online dating (there are some whack jobs out there). The film was fresh and new when it comes to storylines.
