Black Swan (2010)
Director: Darren Aronofsky
Main Stars: Natalie Portman, Mila Kunis, Vincent Cassel, Barbara Hershey, Winona Ryder
Storyline: A ballet dancer who won the part in Swan Lake as the White Swan slowly loses her mind.
Review (Spoils): Nina (Natalie Portman) is a young and beautiful ballet dancer and she is also a perfectionist. She is granted the part to play Princess Odette the White Swan from the classic Swan Lake. She has lived a life under the shadow of her ex-ballet dancer mother Erica (Barbara Hershey) to be the perfect ballet dancer which gives it a semi Carrie type feel. In through the try outs Nina meets another new dancer named Lily (Mila Kunis) who represents the Black Swan. As their relationship expands and twists with sexual in your window hints Nina slowly starts to lean towards the Black Swan personality.
This film might not be viewed as a true horror film but the set and music set the tone for it to be a haunting experience. The film builds a great storyline and it twists it and unleashes it full tilt in the last 40mins or so. Both Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis steal the show for building up their characters and showing true emotion when doing it. Plus the sexual undertones help the viewer also.
Rating: Yes the film borderlines on art and thriller but to me this leans on horror. The finale of the film is one to remember and this film sits on a class of its own just because it is so different. Bring on blood, freakiness and dark hallucinations and women in tights what is there not to love?
