Ponty Pool (2008)
Director: Bruce McDonald
Main Stars: Stephen McHattie, Lisa Houle, Georgina Reilly
Storyline: A deadly virus affects a small Ontario town
Review (Spoils): Grant Mazzy (Stephen McHattie) is a loud mouth, whiskey drinking DJ for a local radio station. Violence starts to be a common occurrence in this small Ontario town and radio station is trying to keep on top of the story. As the story unfolds the radio staff Mazzy, Syndey (Lisa Houle) and Laurel-Ann (Georgina Reilly) find out that a virus is spreading like a zombie plague and only to find out that the English language is what is spreading the disease. Wow that is a tough break for a radio station.
Bruce McDonald jumped on the zombie fad but let’s be honest he did something different. The film is very dark and gloomy and the gore really does not come out till towards the end but when it does its hats off. The cast is great in the film and I personally think the star of the film was Georgina Reilly her character was interesting (plus cute). The acting overall was well done and using the language as transfer for the zombie like virus was a fresh and new idea. The sound of panic from the callers into the radio station added to the vibe of the gloomy film.
Rating: Bruce McDonald did something new and sharp here. If you’re a zombie movie fan you need to check this baby out.
