Wolf Creek (2005)
Director: Greg Mclean
Main Stars: Nathan Phillips, Cassandra Magrath, Kestie Morassi, John Jarratt
Storyline: Backpackers in Australia get tracked down and brutally tortured by a bushman
Review (Spoils): Walking in Wolf Creek National Park is not a safe place in Australia. Mick Taylor (John Jarratt) is one wicked, mean man and he a very strong enjoyment for watching people in fear and pain. The trio of Kristy (Kestie Morassi), Ben (Nathan Phillip) and Liz (Cassandra Magrath) learn this out the hard way when they run into Mick when their car will not start. After he drugs them they wake up to find he is not much help after all. He takes them and slowly tortures them, dismembers them and even kills them. The film is massive gore, blood and not for the faint of the heart.
Bring out the jolly of horror out on this one. The movie is written so you actually get to know the characters so that when ol’ Mick shows his true colours you actually want them to escape and run for their lives. To me this is well written and the over the top gore is just a nice added bonus. We have hacked fingers, knife stabs to the extreme, nailed to a crucifix and some old car torching.
Rating: I really enjoyed this film. Not sure really why but it felt like it was well done and the movie’s gory and dark feeling helped it bring full circle for me. I really ended up hating Mick Taylor and that’s a good thing. Cheers to the bushman that you want to see die badly!!!
