Director: Franck Khalfoun
Main Stars: Elijah Wood, Nora Arnezeder, Liane Balaban, Megan Duffy
Storyline: Young mannequin shop owner is haunted by his childhood. He attracts a beautiful young artist to his painful desires.
Review (Spoils): First I would like to start off I was worried about this remake for two reasons, the first one is a pretty awesome flick and the second would be Elijah Wood playing the messed up Frank. Frank (Elijah Wood) is one twisted man who was obsessed with his mother, who was a junky and a prostitute who like to have her son watch. So when Frank grew up and took the family mannequin shop of course he is going to stalk and scalp ladies.
The story is dark and the film plays greatly with weird angles and flashbacks. It does a great job with what is happening and mixing it with what is going on in Franks mind. We have the gorgeous Nora Arnezeder playing Anna the French artist that wants to use his mannequins for her own exhibited. Things start to go well from Frank till he finds out she has a boyfriend and his finally loses his mind.
We have some gory scalping, tied up ladies, drowning, stabbings and some raw sex. Bring on the gore for this one but too be honest they didn’t need it for this film to work.
Rating: This is not a bad remake, I’m actually surprised. I do wish though it would have dropped the gore and actually leaned more on the twisted mind of Frank. But it is worth a watch but please do check out the original first even if it doesn’t have Nora Arnezeder.
