The Wasp Woman (1959)
Director: Roger Corman, Jack Hill
Main Stars: Susan Cabot, Anthony Eisley, Barboura Morris
Storyline: A cosmetics woman creates a jelly from queen wasps to create a formula of youth but it has bad test results.
Review (Spoils): Janice Starlin (Susan Cabot) runs a cosmetic firm but feel her aging is affecting her business and social life so she contacts a scientist named Eric Zinthrop. He has created a formula of youth from the jelly from wasps. She willing becomes the first test subject and injects herself with it. Her personality changes (not for the better) and slowly she becomes a massive bitch. Professor Zinthrop gets hit by a car and is taken out of the scene and now she has no cure when she slowly becomes the wasp woman.
The story is very basic and a lot of the film plays like The Fly except you do not feel empathy for the wasp woman. The special effects are cheesy but yet very cool and the storyline is not bad either. I have seen way worse films then this so I’m not sure why this isn’t more a classic.
Rating: I did not mind this film, it was what it was suppose to be, a cheesy monster film. If you’re looking for a drive in monster film this one is not so bad.
