Two Thousand Maniacs (1964)
Director: Herschell Gordon Lewis
Main Stars: Connie Mason, William Kerwin, Jeffery Allen
Storyline: A small town in the south have a centennial celebration by killing off tourists for revenge of the Civil War.
Review (Spoils): A small town in the south of about two thousand people attract a group of people for a free holiday and meals. What they are not aware of is they will be brutally killed one by one by the residence to celebrate the Civil War.
This film is very tongue in cheek and not meant to be taken serious which makes this film fun to watch. Killing for fun and enjoyment is what this small town is doing. We have lots of body parts chopped off from fingers, arms, head, a nice horse quarterly and the classic barrel of nails. The blood runs very red in this film and for its time it is pretty graphic but not realistic. The film itself ahs rough audio and can be grainy due to budget and do not expect top notch acting….come on it’s a Herschell Gordon Lewis film.
Rating: I actually enjoy this film for what it was. A bloody mess! Herschell Gordon Lewis might have won me over with this one. I enjoy it as much as the first film Blood Feast. Bring on the rednecks!
