Evil Dead (2013)
Director: Fede Alvarez
Main Stars: Jane Levy, Shiloh Fernandez, Jessica Lucas
Storyline: Five friends go into the woods to a cabin and find a old book that unleashes the evil demons of the woods.
Review (Spoils): So remake time again….this time over a classic that should have never been touched. (yet again!) The film starts off with some background of a young girl being hunted down by her father who reveals she is more then it seems. Now we fly to now where five young people head to the woods as a getaway. We have the nerd, the junkie, the brother, the lovers and yet again the third wheel. One of the young men finds an old book about the occult while the junkie has some drama. The book is read and it unleashes the evil that it contained. Well ever comes the possessions and the evil spreads until it is finally burned and chopped to bits.
I personally hated the whole idea of this being made as the series is a classic but unfortunately horror has gone down this path because Hollywood is lacking on originality. The characters to be honest are dry and pointless and the film tries the first two films into this remake. Does it work? Yes and no!
The film tries too hard to be over the top with the blood and gore but it was entertaining. The remake of the classic tree scene was not as good at all. It was actually boring to be honest they really could of done better with this one. The film did try to stay along the lines of the first one but somewhere near the end it became a bit of a mess in the storyline. But I do love that they brought the classic car in a scene for Sam Rami.
Rating: This film actually was better than I thought but it still does not touch the originals. I just did not care for the characters and was more excited to see the demons. If they leave this as is it will be ok but if they try to press a second one then it will become a fail for the series overall. Do yourself a favor and watch the first original one again. All Hail Ash!
