Cry of the Banshee (1970)
Director: Gordon Hessler
Main Stars: Vincent Price, Essy Persson, Hilary Heat, Elisabeth Bergner
Storyline: A wicked lord destroys a coven of witches and the leader of the coven spirits up a banshee to have revenge.
Review (Spoils): Lord Edward Whitman (Vincent Price) is a twisted lord and witch hunter. He has a wife (Essy Persson) and large family in England in which help him scourer the land of witchcraft and anything tied to the occult. He tracks down the leader of the coven, a woman known as Oona and he kills off most of her cult. Oona (Elisabeth Bergner) who survives the attack uses her powers to talk to Satan which then sends a banshee like servant to England to lay a curse on the family of Whitman.
Vincent Price’s films are very close to be the same character but this is not a bad thing. He can take a plot that has gaps and over act it and make it very enjoyable. We have the typical sexy and buxom ladies that you would suspect from a 70s UK horror film.
Rating: Burn the witches …burn the witches!!! Vincent Price is back and this time he has a little help with Essy Persson and Hilary Heat. This film is not amazing but it is an interesting little tale about a violent family that have crossed the line of witchcraft and they pay. It’s a nice little Vincent Price tale.
