Maniac Cop (1988)
Director: William Lustig
Main Stars: Tom Atkins, Bruce Campbell, Laurene Landon
Storyline: People in NY are being murdered by someone in a police uniform
Review (Spoils): The film starts off with what the whole setting is going to be…who can you trust? We have a young lady trying to escape some punks and runs towards a police officer for help and he picks her up and breaks her neck. The two punks were witness of the murder and the investigation now begins. The murders start to become more common and people are witnessing it all and the city is trying to cover it up.
We have breaking necks, blades from billy clubs, lots of blood, a fun face smash in wet cement, innocent police being murdered by citizens as they don’t know who is a true officer of the law or the maniac cop, gun shots, stabbings, some super power strength like Jason and of course lots of guessing on who is the killer.
I’m not going to make any comments on this to spoil the movie as that would be too easy and also no comments on trust of the police force and what is currently been going on in certain parts of the US.
But we have a classic 80’s horror film that involves Bruce Campbell so what is there not to love as everything he touches is gold.
Rating: If you have some time free as the film is not very long at all and you want to see a high body count film check this out. Of course if you’re a Bruce Campbell fan you must see this one, this is just the first of the small series and before they wrecked it with a remake.
