The Puppet Master 4 (1993)
Director: Jeff Burr
Main Stars: Gordon Currie, Chandra West, Ash Adams, Teresa Hill, Guy Rolfe, Stacie Randall
Storyline: A young scientist is being hunted down by strange gremlins and does not know why they want to impact his research.
Review (Spoils): The story is a little different this time around for this series. We have a young scientist named Rick Myers (Gordon Currie) who is working on experiments to create artificial intelligence. These small like demon gremlins called Totems are trying to kill him and disrupt his creation. Through the story we learn that Myer’s has the original puppets stored in his lab area (he did not know of this). The Totems are minions from the great demon lord named Sutek which his people stole the secret from Toulon. So this becomes the Toulon puppets vs the Totems of Sutek. During this we see the creation of a new puppet named Decapitron and now the puppets are the good guys.
The storyline for this one is totally different than the four before it. We have creepy looking gremlins battling the classic puppets and young man and woman stuck in the middle. A couple issues with the film is the Sutek demon is so fake that it’s not scary at all and actually rubber. We do lack gore in this one and the acting is not much better than the last few before.
Rating: The story is ok, the puppets are likeable and the series is not dead yet. It was a nice change from the war background scene but not sure if this was the direction the film needed to go. If you don’t’ mind puppets vs puppets then check this one out plus we have the hot Chandra West.
