The Last Exorcism (2010)
Director: Daniel Stamm
Main Stars: Patrick Fabian, Ashley Bell, Iris Bahr
Storyline: A messed up evangelical minister creates a documentary on his last exorcism.
Review (Spoils): We learn that Reverend Cotton Marcus (Patrick Fabian) is losing his faith since the trouble they had with their first born with wife Shanna Marcus (Iris Bahr). He wants to bring in a camera crew to film a documentary on his exorcisms in which a southern farmer believes his young daughter Nell (Ashley Bell ) is possessed.
Cotton plays the role of the troubled preacher who has lost his faith and wants to up front the audience with camera tricks and fakeness but once he learns that the farmers Sweetzer have some serious issues he comes to his faith to save him.
First off this is not a remake so thank you God for that! What we have here is a redneck exorcist type film with the lovely Ashley Bell. She plays the innocent southern bell very well in the film and the main characters the reverend and his wife also does a decent job. We have a slow character build up and then the film kicks into high gear. Not sure if it was because this was not a remake or that I actually found this film enjoyable …but I did enjoy this film. Sure the ending was lacking but the movie itself was a fun ride.
Rating: I’m going to be honest I have a soft spot for Ashley Bell, I really have no idea why but she has always drawn me to her acting on the screen. The plot of the scam minister and the troubles that he and his wife deal with adds more the film not just the exorcism itself. I would take this film over the Paranormal Activities any day.
