From Beyond (1986)

Country: USA

Director:  Stuart Gordon

Main Stars:  Jeffery Combs, Barbara Crampton, Ted Sorel, Carolyn Purdy-Gordon, Bunny Summers

Storyline:  A bunch of scientists built a Resonator that allows whoever near by it see beyond normal perceptible reality. Once it is open terrible life forms appear to attack mankind.

Review (Spoils): Crawford Tillinghast (Jeffery Combs) and Edward Pretorius (Ted Sorel) worked together on a Resonator and once it started to finally work all hell broke loose. Flying eels from another dimension started to attack and before you knew it Pretorius was killed but was, he? Crawford got taken away for being nuts and Dr. Katherine Mc Michaels (Barbara Crampton) decides to listen to him and have him re-done exactly what he did. This opens the dimension yet again and it also shows what has happened to Pretorius.

The plot for this film is very simple and it should be as the main part of the film for the audience is the crazy special effects. This film is loaded with them so much that I cannot even begin to start to list the scenes. When Stuart Gordon, Jeffery Combs and Barbara Crampton are together you do know that you do not have to doubt the film period. If you have no idea what I am talking about then you better redo your watching list of what is really horror. The characters yes is basic and not overly written in development, but you have Combs playing the strange yet lost scientist and Crampton with her style coming to the rescue or at least trying too. The film screams classic Stuart Gordon with tons of over top special effects and goo coming from all different things and directions.

This film gives lots of slime goo, heads splitting, lots of melting and stretching skin, flying eels, classic 80s electricity effects (you know what I mean), Barbara Crampton topless, weird head antenna that kill, Barbara Crampton in stockings (yummy), melted and torn apart bodies, not much blood but lots and lots of strange lamprey creatures and the many forms of Edward Pretorius. So much special effects I cannot get into the all details.

Rating:  Wanna watch a classic special effects film that is over the top and fun? Then this is the one for you. Stuart Gordon held back nothing when it comes to both his main characters of Jeffery Combs and Barbara Crampton in this film. This gold when it comes to classic 80s horror films of weirdness and it was just wanted, I needed and love.

7/10 Beers!
