Blair Witch (2016)

Blair Witch (2016)

Country:  USA

Director:  Adam Wingard

Main Stars:  James Allen McCune, Callie Hernandez, Corbin Reid, Valorie Curry, Wes Robinson, Brandon Scott

Storyline:  Again, a videotape has been found with and some young people are missing that were wandering in the deep forest that is haunted.

Review (Spoils): In the Black Hills Forest tales of a haunting has been legendary. James (James Allen McCune) wants to finally put to rest his sister Heathers disappearance on the woods. A team of young people being led by James kind of head into the woods during the day to find out if the stories are true about what exists in the woods. As they travel deeper and get lost in the maze and night starts to fall, they all start to lose their sanity.

Once again, a tape has been found which bring a young back on a hunt for his missing sister from 20 years ago. The storyline of this one has not changed much from the original, but it is okay to burn 1.5 hours. Sure, the young people are super annoying and do stupid things and think they are all super cool and tough but really the scares are the same as before.

We have a dark forest, shaky camera action that you have no idea what the fuck is going on, people staring in the corner of the room (but this is explained so that was nice), lots of yelling, cool witch tokens hanging on trees, mud and some flashing lights. Nothing out of the ordinary with this film at all.

Rating: Not sure why this film was made and the reasoning it needed to be told but it was nice connection to the first one, but it did not stray from it at all.  The characters were super annoying except for Callie Hernandez as she is hot. The scares were limited and looking back maybe this could be watched again as a drinking game when someone name is called. Or if there is a group of you each choose a name and drink too it.

V/H/S 2 (2013)

V/H/S 2 (2103)

Country:  USA

Director: Simon Barrett, Jason Eisener,Gareth Evans, Gregg Hale, Eduardo Sanchez, Timo Tjahjanto, Adam Wingard

Main Stars: Lawrence Michael Levine, Kelsy Abbott, L.C. Holt, Simon Barrett, Mindy Robinson, Adam Wingard, Casey Adams, Roxanne Benjamin, Samantha Gracie, Rylan Logan

Storyline: Two people come across a box of VHS tapes when they were investigating a missing student. The film is a collection of the watched tapes.

Review (Spoils): This time in the series, we have two people who are videotaping their undercover investigation of a missing student. During the search, they comes across a box of VHS tapes which they start to watch. While going through the series of the tapes (4 short tales of horror) strange things start to happen to them also. Spoiler alert about to happen!

The first tape viewed is called “Phase 1 Clinic Trials” this one of the weaker tales which focuses around the super natural and some jumping parts of a fat naked man and a little girl appearing and disappearing and haunting a man. The graphic are actual good but when it comes to haunting it is the same ol’ story. We have a quick topless shot in this one.

The second tape “A Ride in the Park” is a more interesting one as it involves zombies and a biker. A zombie bites the biker and then we start to see through the video eyes of a zombie attacking. Lots of blood and gore and a fun new take of a zombie tale.

The third and more fun tape of them, “Safe Haven” is a wild gorefest of a cult that is being documented and all Hell breaks loose…literally. Gore galore, I could rate this film alone on this one! The gore blew my mind and I could not stop ginning… bring on the devil horns and blood.

The main last tape called “Slumber Party Alien Abduction” is a weaker one I find, as it was too shaky to know really, what was happening. It had a Stranger Things feel but at the same time, it was all too fast and confusing.

The ending is the conclusion of the two watching the tapes and slowly being haunted and tormented. More of side note of the whole film really.

Rating: Once again, this series blew me away and kept me entertained. The film was fun and was actually damn gory. The gunshots to the head was over the top in a few of the short stories that helped me easy rate this film for a few beers higher. I can actually say even with the odd weaker tale the good ones were well worth the whole watch! Check out this series if you are a gorehound!

You’re Next (2011)

You’re Next (2011)

Country:  USA

Director: Adam Wingard

Main Stars: Sharni Vinson, Nicholas Tucci, Wendy Glenn, AJ Bowen, Joe Swanberg, Margarget Laney, Amy Seimetz, Ti West, Barbara Crampton

Storyline:  During a families wedding anniversary party a group of men in masks start to terrorize the family.

mv5bmtqwodaxmte1nf5bml5banbnxkftztcwntq0mjy3oq__v1_ux182_cr00182268_al_Review (Spoils):  A man and his wife have invited their siblings and their loved ones to come to an old mansion that help celebrate their wedding anniversary. What everyone does not know is the neighbors next door have already been slaughtered by someone in a mask that leaves messages in blood saying You’re Next. Through this we gain some character development, some conflict between the sons, some background on the family and money and of course a few killers roaming around in animal masks that are not afraid by any means on getting their hands bloody.

We have a topless scene in the first 2 min, lots of red blood, nasty axes, crossbows, glass cuts, some serious throat cuts, nails in the foot, some head smashes and a actual cool plot and storyline. We have the beautiful Sharni Vinson as our scream queen and the actual people used in this film are normal not you type Hollywood crap setup.

Rating: This film was sooo much fun! It was a total bloody mess and I was entertained actual through the whole damn thing. It’s been awhile since I enjoyed a horror film this much and it was over top gory. Think The Strangers meets the goriest thing and this sums this film up!

Storyline: A group of men break into a house and find a strange collection of VHS tapes that have collections of people being killed in unbelievable ways.

MV5BMTUwODAxMzMwNF5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwMTk3MTQ5Nw@@._V1_SX214_AL_Review (Spoils): We have a group of men which break into a house and find a dead man sitting in a chair while the search for a tape in which they were to retrieve. During their search for the tape they come across a number of tapes that creepy or unreal footage on them. Each video tells a tale of something of the unknown.

“Amateur Night” The first tape is a tale of a group of three men who are out to shake the town the up. The groups of guys get drunk and do some drugs and end up bring back two girls back to the hotel room that they are staying in. One girl Lisa (Jas Sams) passes out as the creepy girl Lily (Hannah Fierman) is attracted to the odd ball boy of the group. The other two men force themselves on her to learn that Lily is not all she claims to be. It leads to a bloody mess.

“Second Honeymoon” A couple head to the Wild West to spend some time together. The woman of the couple Stephanie (Sophia Takal) gets her fortune told and learns that she is told visited by a loved one. This leads to a strange woman asking for ride in the middle of the night which the boyfriend (Joe Swanberg) declines. The woman becomes an intruder that films them, steals money and rubs the toothbrush on the toilet. This one ends also in a bloody throat slitting mess.

“Tuesday the 17th” Four friends take a trip through the bush and find bodies lying about and tell tales of horror that haunts the woods. They started to be hunted down one by one by a killer that looks like a blur running through the woods.

“The Sick Thing that Happened to Emily when she Younger” This sequence is webcam conversation between Emily (Helen Rogers) and her dick boyfriend James about her apartment being haunted. We have ghostly like children, a nasty itchy rash, a fetus from the back of the neck and some a connection between the boyfriend and the haunting

“10/31/98” This is the weaker of the bunch as it deals with a group of men as they come across a strange cult in the attic of an old haunted house. The special effects are pretty well done on this one though but the storyline is weak.

Rating: This to me is a modern day Creepshow which is a good thing. I personally had no idea what the film was about as I try not to read reviews before viewing films. This was a surprise for me as I did not know this was a bunch of short stories and I dug the film quite a bit. The stories were entertaining enough for me, it had some babes in it and it kept me glued to the screen. All of them were interesting except for the last one which kind of dragged on a bit. Want something new grab some beers and check this film out.
