April Fool’s Day (1986)
Director: Fred Walton
Main Stars: Deborah Foreman, Griffon O’Neal, Clayton Rohner, Deborah Goodrich, Amy Steel
Storyline: Friends go to a remote island for a weekend and end up in a weekend of murder.
Review (Spoils): Muffy (Deborah Foreman) invites some of her closest friends over to a remote island to have some fun. We the typical list of friends the babe, the hunk with the ego, the redneck, the clown, the nerd and the filler that you can kill off in between. Too be honest this movie has no real substance at all and most if not all the kills are off scene (for a reason). Sure Muffy gets weirder as the movie moves along but there juts is not enough to keep an interest. Also once the ending gets revealed you are let down and right there you feel you want that hour and half of your life back. Sorry but this movie was a waste of time and boring as hell.
Rating: This movie sucked and even years later and re-watching it still sucks. Total waste of time and the only thing this movie had going for it was the 80s babe Nikki (Deborah Goodrich) but there is not enough to hold its own. The joke here is the movie itself.
Friday the 13th 2 (1981)
Director: Steve Miner
Main Stars: Amy Steel, Betsy Palmer, John Furey, Adrienne King, Warrington Gillette
Storyline: The son of Mrs. Voorhees saw his mother’s death. The truth is Jason did not fully drown that day at Crystal Lake and now he wants revenge for his mother’s death five years later.
Review (Spoils): This is another gem for the series and it is just a great as the first one. We have pointless sex, slaughter and bring on the blood. (we even have pee) We welcome aboard Jason (not for the first time) but it is for the full of the film.
The kids are back in town not at Camp Crystal Lake but nearby and with their snooping around to get a glimpse of Camp Blood they stirred up their worse nightmare. Alice (Adrienne King) from the first film is back and pays her dues. We have the beautiful Ginny (Amy Steel) playing the more seriouscounsellor and her boy counterpart Paul (John Furey) plays the wanna be tough guy.Great acting on both but Amy Steel takes the lead when it comes tofeeling for her character. Slowly one by one the teenagers get knocked off with such things like the classic machete, spears and even a pitchfork! Jason (Warrington Gillette) is back and this time he brought his grain sack with him.
Rating: This movie is pretty damn good for being the second of the series. We got Jason, cameo of Alice and Mrs. Voorhees (heehee) and lots of chasing. I loved the idea of the shack, the shrine and the sweater coming together. This leads to a great ending and it all makes sense. So grab some cold ones and enjoy a good time at the lake and as Ralph says “I told the others, they didn’t believe me. You’re all doomed. You’re all doomed.”
