Vampyros Lesbos (1971)
Director: Jesus Franco
Main Stars: Soledad Miranda, Dennis Price, Paul Muller, Ewa Stromberg
Storyline: A tale a young woman and her interest in the countess of seduction.
Review (Spoils): Linda (Ewa Stromberg ) has erotic dreams with about a strange woman so her doctor suggests her to start to explore this. She gets an estate run by Countess Nadine Oskudar (Soledad Miranda) which just so happens to be owned at one time by Count Dracula. The countess then attacks Linda and since that moment she starts to be treated for being insane. So the ex boyfriend of Linda and some vampire experts head out to put an end to the Countess.
This film is basically some weird dreams, some sexual lesbian erotic stuff and limited neck biting of red goop on blood. Nothing over the top gory or nothing shocking except maybe the display of art in the film. The plot line is pretty basic and nothing is really over the top entertaining. We have the beautiful Soledad Miranda parading around in stocking and dancing and biting necks.
Rating: This movie actually can be pretty boring and I even have the uncut version. I’m not sure why but I was expecting a lot more out of this film. I’m giving this a low rating as it is not recommending for everyone but it will get basic stars because we have Soledad Miranda roaming around in sexy stocking through the film and that is worth something.
Burial Ground (1981)
Director: Andrea Bianchi
Main Stars: Karin Well, Gianluigi Chirizzi, Simone Mattioli, Pietro Barzocchinini, Mariangela Giorddano,
Storyline: A crypt gets opened and the zombies rise and attack a group of people in a nearby mansion.
Review (Spoils): Professor Ayres finds some ancient texts and opens a crypt which unleashes an evil which makes the dead within walk again. Zombies start to pour out and head to a manor where a group of young people are staying (to protect themselves). The undead keep coming and slowly work their way into the manor killing them one by one.
The zombies are not the scary part of this film, the little boy Michael (which is not played by a boy, Pietro Barzocchinini) is. He loves and connection to his mother is over the top and some of the scenes are uncomfortable. We have lots of gory zombies, bodies being ripped, eyes popping, incest, nudity and some classic feel much like the film Zombi. Like I said before the characters of Pietro Barzocchinini, Mariangela Giorddano is the scariest! Exploitation at its finest!
Rating: I personally do not know where to start but if you’re a horror fan and love the Italian horror like myself you need to see this film. The violence of the zombies in the film is extreme and fun and the gore never stops. Plus the creepiness of this film just leaves a dry and awful taste in your mouth. Gore and sleaze ………….I’m sold!
Ichi the Killer (2001)
Director: Takashi Miike
Main Stars: Tadanobu Asano, Nao Ohmori, Shin’ya Tsukamoto, Paulyn Sun
Storyline: A yakuza enforcer trying to find is boss and a madman killer with bladed boots meet head on.
Review (Spoils): A yakuza enforcer with massive scars on his face and love for torture named Kakihara (Tadanobu Asano) is trying to find his missing boss. He goes through a ton of people by beating them and torturing them to find out what has happened. During this search they come across a killer named Ichi (Nao Ohmori). Well Ichi is different he gets off on blood (literally) and he wears these fancy blade boots which he roams around slitting and cutting people up. Ichi starts to take out the yakuza till they finally have a showdown at the end. Who will win?
This film is very over the top for blood, gore and special effects. Some of them are really good and some of them are cheesie. But this film is not lacking in action and body parts. We have the blades of Ichi cutting everything up in a million pieces and slitting some nasty throats and we have Kakihara torturing people to the point that it makes Saw look like a child’s game.
There is so much death and blood in this film I can’t name of the deaths but man we have everything from nipple slicing, to throats gashed, pulled off arms, faces lifted off, looks of chains and hooks, women beatings, sex and even some good old fashion getting off from killing people. Nothing is lacking or forgotten in this film. Oh and we have the very long legged and beautiful Paulyn Sun.
Rating: The above film is not for everyone! This is over the top graphic gore, sex and torture. Exploitation is not lacking in this gem and now I can see why horror fans rave about this being one of the bloodest films very made.Do not expect jumps and scares in this film instead prepare yourself to cringe and feel disgusted……. definite and oddball for sure.
Director: Michael Findlay
Main Stars: Margarita Amuchastegui, Tina Austin, Ana Carro, Roberta Findlay
Storyline: A snuff film of a cult of bikers that film a number of killings.
Review (Spoils): It took me a long while to get a hold of a copy of this film as it held a lot of controversy around it as one time the film was thought to be a real snuff film during its release. After years of odd searching I finally found a copy and thought another film off my horror bucket list to check off. What I did find was an imported, raw knock of the Manson family massacres (Spoiler!!! yes they did do the pregnant woman thing in this film).
This film is all over the place and not sure why they did that way unless they thought this would trick the viewer that they were watching actual raw footage of a snuff film. We have a long boring period of the film being around a young woman and her rich boyfriend and the build of that relationship bond and then somewhere mid beginning it cuts into the murdering. We have biker chicks that kill and some very cheap special effects. Sure we have some bloody finger chopping and some intestine/other organs pulling and of course the finale scene which is something else if you can get over the bad acting and over dub. The last 10min is the best part of the whole film.
Rating: In the mood for a bad taste film and I mean bad as in not very good.We have some bad acting, terrible transfer and some not realistic special effects but if at least I can say I have seen it and own a copy.
Cannibal Ferox 2 (1985)
Director: Michele Massimo Tarantini
Main Stars: Michael Spokiw, Suzane Carvalho, Milton Rodriguez
Storyline: A plane crashes in the jungle and the survivors must survive the jungle.
Review (Spoils): In Brazil a man wants to find dinosaur bones and takes a flight into the deep Amazonia. The plane crashes in the jungle and himself and the other passengers must work together to get through the animals, quicksand and of course some cannibal jungle tribes.
This film for some reason is also known as Massacre in Dinosaur Valley instead of Cannibal Ferox 2 not sure why. We have some poorly written scripts with bad acting but at the same time we have some classic nudity (did I mention that some of the plane passengers where models?) and some killer piranha and alligators, very cool quicksand scene and of course cannibals that wants to sacrifice the ladies to the dinosaur god. The film has really nothing to do with the first one except that it yet again exploits cannibals and rape. The plane scene is very enjoyable as it is laughable …and the sleaze is there. Over the top sleaze for this euro-trash horror film.
Rating: We have a lesbian rape scene, lots of nudity, cannibals and some very horrible acting. We have the pretty Suzane Carvalho but a very poor story. You need a lot of beers to get the point of this film but all the stuff that I mentioned early helps the film along.
The Wizard of Gore (1970)
Director: Herschelle Gordon Lewis
Main Stars: Ray Sager, Judy Cler, Wayne Ratay
Storyline: A TV talk show host and her boyfriend investigate a shady magician who can use hypnotise to create gory illusions.
Review (Spoils): A crazed magician (Ray Sager) selects girls from the audience in which he uses hypnosis to catch the crowd and have them envision gory deaths of the volunteers. A TV host (Judy Cler) becomes obsessed with the show and her boyfriend is concerned about it. But when the bodies of the volunteers start to show up after the show with the exact deaths a portrayed on stage is the magician all he claims to be.
First off this is a Herschelle Gordon Lewis film so please do not expect awesome acting and special effects. We have lots of red blood, terrible gory effects such as swords, drills, chainsaws and other disturbing items as the ladies scream for their lives and the audience applauds.
Rating: This film is pretty messed up and in a good way. We have Montag the Magnificent on stage doing twisted things to young as the blank audience stares. The acting is just as bad as the gore and the wrongness you feel when watching this piece of utter disturbance….. for that you need to check it out.
The New York Ripper (1982)
Director: Lucio Fulci
Main Stars: Jack Hedley, Almanta Suska, Howard Ross
Storyline: A crazy stalker is killing woman around New York City.
Review (Spoils): We have women that are being stalked and killed within the City of the New York. A dog comes across a woman’s hand that brings the film to the open case. As the police investigate on the hand we learn that it belongs to a local prostitute and that her landlady overheard a conversation with her and a man who sounded like Donald Duck. (Yes you read that right)
Lucio Fulci is always been known for his crazy cannibal/zombie films but this time he tries something that Dario Argento would of done. We have a burned out old police detective and young psychotherapy professor that try find out who is killing all these young girls with the Donald Duck voice. We have lots of blood, red, gore, lots of switchblades, broken bottles, shotguns and missing fingers. We have a lot of gore in this film.
Rating: Want a film that leaves you going whoa?! I love Lucio Fulci and this film was not disappointing. The killer was unique and I loved the idea of the Donald Duck voice as it is memorable for horror. We have gruesome killings and I can see how this movie landed in the Nasty list. Well done Lucio Fulci!
