Cabin Fever (2016)
Director: Travis Zariwny
Main Stars: Gage Golightly, Matthew Daddario, Samuel Davis, Nadine Crocker, Dustin Ingram, Randy Schulman, Louise Linton
Storyline: A group of young people go to a cabin in the woods and become sick from the water supply.
Review (Spoils): Remake time yet again in the world of horror. This time it is one of gems of the horror world Cabin Fever. The story does not stretch far from the original except the characters are a little more paper thin, the dialogue is vague and you actually can be annoyed at the beginning of the film with the characters. But it makes up some of this with the gore.
We have pretty much the same scenes as the original film (which gives a question why the remake) and the blood is not as good but there is plenty still. We have gory dogs, puking blood, the classic shave scene, unnecessary sex scenes (nice body Nadine Crocker), gun shots, rotting flesh, nasty bleeding, some stupid dropin characters that were not needed and the cute Gage Golightly.
Rating: This film is pretty much the same thing but not as funny and the characters are a bit more annoying. The film has the same amount of gore but the sex scenes are annoying and not needed and the characters that just dropin in the film make no sense. This hurts the film, if they would have just stuck with the blood and gore and Gage Golightly this film could have been rated higher.
Cabin Fever 3 (2014)
Director: Kaare Andrews
Main Stars: Sean Astin, Currie Graham, Ryan Donowho, Jillian Murray, Solly Duran, Lydia Hearst, Claudette Lali
Storyline: A bachelor party ends up on an island that has a facility that has a virus contamination.
Review (Spoils): A group of friends think they found a great place for a bachelor party on a little island (not sure why the brother would bring his girlfriend) where they can smoke dope, drink, come clean about banging each other and get infected. One by one starting with the beautiful Penny (Jillian Murray) they start to show a red rash and then start to bleed rot and fall apart.
The virus is back but this time on an island located in the middle of the ocean. It infects some young people and during this another story is being told about the virus being spread at facility on the island. We have lots of blood, over the top gore, gun shots, a nasty oral sex scene and a classic hot rotting babe’s catfight. This film has a little bit of it all.
Rating: Jillian Murray is hot, there is lots of blood, lots of skin and chunks of gore, sticky stuff and the special effects are actually decent. The storyline can be a bit much and does drag at the beginning but overall this film has come back to its roots of the first one, this is a good thing. Grab some beers and some friends as this one is messing and hell of a lot better than the second one.
Cabin Fever 2 (2009)
Director: Ti West
Main Stars: Rider Strong, Noah Segan, Rusty Kelly, Alexi Wasser, Lindsay Axelsson
Storyline: The famous flesh eating virus has now spread to a school due to bottled water.
Welcome to Springfield where the acting is bad and the script is worse. The main plot of this film is we have teenagers, being teenagers and going to prom. The bottled water company called Down Home Water gets the contract to the local high school and gets the water from the same place that the last film had contaminated the water. So prom kicks in so does the virus in the water for all the students. Sure like the past film we have lots of gore and blood but the storyline is just lame and sorry but the students are just not interesting enough to hold the story together.
I had high hopes for this film as I loved the first one big time. I miss Eli Roth and so does this script. The film fell flat and boring except for the odd gory scene. Sure it has some classic scenes like the infected janitor pissing in the prom juice but really the film was missing Roth.
Rating: I should have known from the cartoon beginning that this film just was not like the first one. There is no cabin, no Eli Roth just the odd babe (Lindsay Axelsson) and some good gore but the rest of the story is American Pie.
Cabin Fever (2002)
Director: Eli Roth
Stars: Rider Strong, Jordan Ladd, James DeBello, Cerina Vincent, Joey Kern
Storyline: Five friends rent a cabin in the woods and fall victim one by one by a flesh eating virus.
Review (spoils): This film is fun, campy and downright dirty in the gore. We have five friends that go to the woods to rent a cabin to get away from it all. One gets infected with a strange flesh eating disease and it starts t o spread through the group. Through this we learn the true feelings towards one another and how people react when it comes to life and death and uncertainty.
I won’t get down in the details as the film is based around gore, blood, anger, terror and everyone afraid of each other because nobody understands how to the disease spreads. Eli Roth holds no punches in this one when it comes to gore as we have lots of spitting blood, vomiting blood, skin peeling, skin rotting, and biting and even penis rot! Fun times!
Sure the cop bit with the rednecks can be too much and stupid but outside of that the movie is actually fun and a tribute to classic horror movies of the 70s-early 80s.
Rating: Bring on the red with this one! I actually love this film and do not understand why so many people hate it. It’s a cool concept and the sex scene with the Listerine is funny. I’m a fan of gore and Eli Roth did not let me down with this one. Grab a case and sit down and enjoy this gore fest and remember don’t drink the water!
