Wishmaster 2 (1999)
Director: Jack Sholder
Main Stars: Holly Fields, Chris Weber, Al Foster, Andrew Divoff
Storyline: The Djinni needs to collect 1001souls to bring the end of the world.
Review (Spoils): A female burglar (Holly Fields) screws up a robbery and awakes the forgotten Djinn (Andrew Divoff ) that was trapped in a gem stone. He takes the rap for the robbery so he can use his human illusion form in prison to lure and temp prisoners for wishes for exchange of their souls. The evil Djinn needs 1001 souls so that he can bring the end of the world to Earth.
Pretty basic storyline but it works as the Djinn is back with all his nice one liners and wishes. The film focuses on the Djinn in jail as a male slowing gathering souls by false wishes and granting them in sarcastic ways. The other part of the story is the female thief trying to cope with what she has done such as killing a guard and why there is mysterious man that is taking the blame for the botched job.
We have freezing, a body crushed through some cell bars, a strange scene of man having sex with himself, nasty beatings, head swapping, some blood and gore and of course wishes! This film is pretty much in the same vein as the first film and the Djinn looks great.
Rating: This series is not be taken series much like the Child’s Play series but I find this one more fun. The special effects are pretty good and I have always loved the look of the Djinn. We learn more about the prophetess of the Djinn and it has a touch of religion in the film which is the main character trying to find herself and asks for forgives for her past sins.
