Cult of Chucky (2017)
Director: Don Mancini
Main Stars: Allison Dawn Doiron, Alex Vincent, Brad Dourif, Fiona Dourif, Michael Therriault, Jennifer Tilly
Storyline: Nica is placed in a hospital where past Chucky victims rest. With the help of Tiffany, Chuck comes to the hospital to pay some respect.
Review (Spoils): Nica (Fiona Dourif) is accused of murdering her family, as nobody believes her that the doll did the killing. The patients in the hospital she is located are all past victims (including Andy from the first films) and they are believed to be illusions of the mind. While this is going on the staff at the hospital are actually starting a cult dedicated to the devilish doll but Tiffany has other plans to help Chucky out.
This film starts almost right after the last one but it does start a bit confusing. Nica’s part make’s sense but dragging Andy (Alex Vincent) in from the beginning makes the film confusing. That is a fault of the film it is kind of jammed together without real thought. The gore and blood is there but limited. Do not get me wrong it was nice to re-introduce Andy but it was done wrong and should have been brought in near the end as a surprise. Brad Dourif, Fiona Dourif and Jennifer Tilly did a great job returning as their characters but the story itself was all over the place. The Cult part was misleading and was not really explained.
We have knives, drills, burnt dolls, many jumbled dream sequences, some blood and a nasty head smash. Other than that just a lot of dialogue and character introduction without any real detail.
Rating: Personally had hope for this series as the last film was not bad and I enjoy the Nica character. However, this story is fucked and to be honest the whole Tiffany (Jennifer Tilly )character seems fake in this film but I did enjoy the twist ending. Holding still hope that this series will get back to the horror and drop the comedy.
Curse of Chucky (2013)
Director: Don Mancini
Main Stars: Chantal Quesnelle, Fiona Dourif, Danielle Bisutti, Maitland McConnell, Summer H. Howell, Brad Dourif, Jennifer Tilly
Storyline: The Chucky doll re-appears back into the family of the serial killer Charles Lee Ray.
Review (Spoils): A young woman named Nica (Fiona Dourif) has been in a wheelchair since birth and under the watchful eye of her paranoid mother (Chantal Quesnelle). The Chucky doll appears at the house and her mother id found dead. The family re-unites with Nica’s older sister Barb (Danielle Bisutti), her husband her daughter Alice (Summer H. Howell) and the nanny Jill (Maitland McConnell). As they, all stay at the house with the doll, one by one, they all start to die and the story unfolds with the Charles Lee Ray (Brad Dourif) connection.
Right after the Seed of Chucky crazy storyline the series tries to get back to its roots. The story starts on a tale of the charming Nica and her mother. They get the Chucky doll in the mail and think of it as a sick joke. Time passes and the doll comes to life and her mother is killed. Everything is played as suicide (with scissors?) any ways that is when the rest of the family comes home and as we have family, secrets and conflict Chucky starts to hack them up. We have a beautiful cast of women Chantal Quesnelle, Fiona Dourif, Danielle Bisutti and Maitland McConnell. We have lesbian affairs, scissors, very nasty axes gausses, some bad CGI blood, lost of eyeballs flying and hanging, a hot pink bra and panty laptop chat (because that’s what people do in the real world), knives, peeling skin and very cool beheading. The gore is there if you wait for it.
Rating: I am going to be honest this film at the very beginning I was worried about it. Not being a huge fan of the series this film actual surprised me and got me on board. It dropped some of the cheesy humor of the past films and dove right into a good horror tale. I love the story line that intertwines with the past of the serial killer Charles Lee Ray and his nutty lover Tiffany (Jennifer Tilly). This film actual made me a fan of the series now.
Child’s Play 5: Seed of Chucky (2004)
Director: Don Mancini
Main Stars: Jennifer Tilly, Brad Dourif, John Waters, Billy Boyd, Hannah Spearitt
Storyline: Chucky and Tiffany has a child named Glen and start a killing spree together.
Review (Spoils): So the orphan doll Glen (Billy Boyd), son of Chucky (Brad Dourif ) and Tiffany (Jennifer Tilly) brings them back to reality yet again. During the same time Hollywood is in the works of making a film on the legendary killer dolls. Tiffany and Chucky start to murder people again and this brings horror to Glen.
This film is making more fun of itself then even the past ones. We have Tiffany who cannot believe that her favorite actress Jennifer Tilly is playing her in the movie role, Chucky is depressed that his son is a wimp and Glen is not sure if he is a boy or a girl and keeps peeing himself. The film is very lacking on the horror part as it gets so caught up in the comedy bit which ruins the film for the series. Sure there is some gore and blood but the stand up becomes a bit too overbearing for the film.
Rating: Not a bad film but to me the series is going into another direction I don’t like in horror… comedy. I don’t mind some but when the comedy overcomes the gore and scares then I’m kind of waiting on the sidelines. The whole idea of Glen/Glenda is too much and they had a great connection with just the murdering couple.
