The first tale is called Old Chief Wood’nhead. This about a tale of a couple who owns a store in the desert near some native territory who are not doing so good with business. They keep a close relationship with the natives and they have a large wood statue of chief on there front porch. When the chief of the nearby tribe rewards them with special jewels the statue comes to life and becomes a protector. We learn this after a group of teens try to break into the store and we have hatchets and arrows flying.

The second tale is the best one of the series called The Raft. A very simple story of some teens who head out to the lake to smoke dope and come across a floating tar like spill that just happened to enjoy human flesh. A fun blob like story that involves some serious stickiness.

The last and final tale is called The Hitchhiker. This story is based around a woman who is not afraid of affairs and when racing back home to her husband she hits a road worker and leaves him for dead. Well it turns out he returns to haunt and thanking her for the ride.

Rating: The film itself could have used another story, three seemed a bit too short. The second tale is the best one which I believe was a Stephen King short to begin with. We have some nudity and we have some gore so cannot really complain.

Just Before Dawn (1981)

Just Before Dawn (1981)

Country: USA

Director: Jeff Lieberman

Main Stars: George Kennedy, Mike Kellin, Chris Lemmon, Gregg Henry, Deborah Benson, Ralph Seymour, Katie Powell, Jamie Rose

Storyline: A group of young people got some property and want to check it out. After being advised of a machete wielding maniac they still go for the weekend.

MV5BMjAzNTk3NzMzNF5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwODg5NDAzMQ@@._V1_SY317_CR4,0,214,317_AL_Review (Spoils): Park ranger Roy McLean (George Kennedy) warned the kids multiple times but still the young group take their van deep into the backwoods. Not sure why we have an odd mix of couples but these films love the third wheel guy.

So we have typical warnings, some skinny dipping, machete in the nuts, hillbillies, machete to the hand, some stabbings, some bad make-up and the classic fist in the mouth scene. We have everything that you would want in a bad acting redneck inbreed film.

Rating: This film screams total influence to The Wrong Turn and it does not do too badly of a job of it even though the warnings and some of the character actions are whacked. Sure it’s your typical storyline for the hillbillies in the woods films but it was one of the first next to The Hills Have Eyes. But the film has its own twists and leaves the audience with a bit of cliff hanger.
