The Conjuring II (2016)

The Conjuring II (2016)

Country:  USA

Director:  James Wan

Main Stars:  Vera Farmiga, Patrick Wilson, Madison Wolfe, Bonnie Aarons

Storyline:  A family’s daughter is being haunted by a demon presence and need help.

Review (Spoils): The Warrens (Vera Farmiga, Patrick Wilson) return as they travel to help a family after a desperate call for help as their youngest daughter (Madison Wolfe) seems to be possessed. When they arrive as usual they need to convince everyone that it is real and not another fake parole trick. During this whole speak in deep voices and flying stuff Vera also see’s Patrick’s death in a vision. What is the deal with the old man haunting the young girl and what is the connection of the Marilyn Manson nun (Bonnie Aarons) to it all?

This film does not stray far from the first one except the hauntings are done better. The nun is the star of the film to be honest and kept me intrigued. We have floating kids, stuff flying, some deep haunting voices, possession and a couple creepy parts. The one thing about this film that was missing was I was not frighten or weirder out at all.

Rating:  It could be me, but I find all these haunting films confusing and I do get them mixed up as I watch them. But this one I did not mind and enjoyed the nun a lot, the makeup was done great. The Warrens are an interesting lot and I really would not mind if they kept the series going. Sure, it had some faults like why would a demon give their true name out in any way?  Unlike some of the other haunting films series.

Insidious 2 (2013)

Insidious 2

Country: USA

Director: James Wan

Main Stars: Patrick Wilson, Rose Byrne, Barbara Hershey, Lin Shaye, Jocelin Donahue, Lindsay Seim

Storyline: The Lambert family are still trying to escape the haunting spirits that haunt them.

MV5BMTg0OTA5ODIxNF5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwNTUzNDg4OQ@@__V1_SX214_AL_Review (Spoils): The film kind of continues right where the last one left off.We got the family racing to the home of the grandmother (Barbara Hershey) and the wife does not trust the husband (Patrick Wilson ) because of the ending of the first film. We have a number of flashbacks of when the father was a young boy and was astral traveling with his out body experience. The storyline sits under 3 different paths, the fathers past, the journey to save the father on the ethereal plane and the story of the ghost that haunts them (The woman in black).

This second entry to the series is the same thing basically. The only really interesting part to me really was the background story on the woman in black the rest was like a repeat of what we all ready have seen or already knew. A few things drove me nuts like why the hell are they at the grandmother’s house when they already know about the fathers past and the ghosts? Secondly we saw the ending of the first film, why is Renai (Rose Byrne) even questioning if it is her husband as we already saw the photograph and the answer is clear.

Rating: The whole walking on the other side bores the hell out of me, with the whole out of body experience. It has been done and please move on. The only thing that kept me interested was the background story of the woman in black and of course Rose Byrne, Lindsay Seim and Jocelin Donahue, the rest of the film was a repeat.

The Conjuring (2013)

The Conjuring (2013)

Country: USA

Director:  James Wan

Main Stars: Patrick Wilson, Vera Farmiga, Ron Livingston, Lili Taylor, Shanley Caswell, Hayley McFarland, Mackenzie Foy, Morganna Bridgers

Storyline:  Paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren try to help a family that is being haunted by a dark presence in their home.

MV5BMTM3NjA1NDMyMV5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwMDQzNDMzOQ@@__V1_SX214_ Review (Spoils): In 1971 a young family named the Perron moved into a large farm house on Rhode Island but soon find out that it is haunted. Strange things start to happen such as invisible playmates, pulling from the bed, visions of dead people and go old throwing stuff. They get the paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren (Patrick Wilson, Vera Farmiga) to help out. After lots of jumps and scares we learn that a demon presence lives in the house which involved child murders and hangings. The demon attaches itself to the mother Carolyn Perron (Lili Taylor) and she tries to sacrifice her daughters to the devil.

Rating: To be taken as a true story (ya ya in most cases it is not true) this film is set in the 70s and it works. We have great character build and a family of 5 daughters that witness terror in the old farm house right from the start. The character build of the investigators is even well done. Now does this film deserve all the hype it is getting? Probably not but for a few scares and an old time feel horror film it is pretty good. Too bad they will kill the film when they do more than one.

Review (Spoils):  When I first watch this film I was shocked and locked on the film so bad I even skipped going to the bar. This film is just that good. We great character build in this film and works on you turning away from the film as it sits so realistic that it could really happen. Sure it has the police type feel when they are trying to figure where and who is the Jigsaw Killer. But the idea of the puzzles and timer for each victim to choose and survive is out there and possible that it attacks the mind.  We have everything from traps, bear trap helmets, gorging someone to find a key for a lock and it goes on and on. It really is not over the top gore and not really torture as it is all about survival. This film lives off you being on the edge of your seat and sweating while watching someone escape a puzzle trap while the timer is running. This is brilliant and it is the best of the whole Saw series.

Rating:  Creating one of the most unique horror villains in a long time this movie holds.  Forget the lameness of the teeny bop horrors of that era and reach for this one. Yes it might not be for everyone but everyone should see this film at least once as it is a gem in the horror genre. Drink to the Jigsaw Killer as he “wants to play a game”.

Insidious (2010)

Insidious (2010)

Country: USA

Director:  James Wan

Main Stars: Patrick Wilson, Rose Byrne, Ty Simpkins, Lin Shaye

Storyline:  A child becomes trapped by an evil entity that wants his soul and uses his body to travel back to the land of the living.

Review(Spoils):  The happy couple Josh (Patrick Wilson) and Renai (Rose Byrne) and their two sons move into a new home. One of their sons Dalton (Ty Simpkins) has an accident and the weirdness begins. This movie actually started off pretty good and it gave me the old time horror feel. Rose Byrne is easy on the eyes and actually a pretty good actress; Patrick Wilson’s character annoyed me and seems like the worst husband that ever existed. Jeez man your married to a babe get the fuck home! Then the movie went far left and lost me…

I love Lin Shaye as an actress but her character Elise Rainier lost me with the whole out of body experience and traveling through the planes and the stupid looking devil character just ruined what could have been a great film. Come on …? That’s the reason why Josh was staying late at night instead of being home with his family. Totally stupid this just destroyed the film.

Rating:  Sorry this film could of been a really cool eerie film when it comes to ghosts and haunting but instead it became this over the top spectacle of junk.  Sorry Rose Byrne I will have a drink for you.
