Skinwalkers (2006)

Skinwalkers (2006)

Country: USA

Director: James Isaac

Main Stars: Jason Behr, Elias Koteas, Rhona Mitra, Sarah Carter, Natassia Malthe, Matthew Knight

Storyline: A mother and her son gets caught between two tribes of werewolves

MV5BMTI1OTIyNzc5OF5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwNjI1ODI1MQ@@__V1_SX214_AL_Review (Spoils): Human mother Rachel (Rhona Mitra ) protects her half-breed son Timothy (Matthew Knight ) as when he turns thirteen he will be graced with the curse of the Skinwalkers as per Navajos legends. Rachel is protected and guided with her own tribe of Skinwalkers which the whole thing is a hidden family secret from both the mother and son. There is another tribe of Skinwalkers but they are evil and lead by a savage man named Varek(Jason Behr) and he wants the boy to belong to them and eaten.

This all leads into a battle of werewolves and the hidden truth of Timothy come out and his mother must do everything to protect him. Basically it is a lower grade of the Howling meets Underworld with a touch of native feel. The film is a bunch of running, battles and werewolves hunting, eating and some blood lust. The special effects were ok but the whole transformation piece was missing and there just was not enough gore for me. Sure we have a score of werewolf babes but the plot was just lacking and there was not enough meat to carry this through. Plus Jason Behr was not a good villain.

Rating: Very lacking story and way more action then gore so to me this film was boring in a way. I hate the whole gang of good vs evil especially when it about werewolves. Plus why does everyone in town have a goddamn gun and not know how to shoot it?

The Grudge (2004)

The Grudge (2004)

Country: USA

Director: Takashi Shimizu

Stars: Sarah Michelle Gellar, Jason Behr, Clea DuVall

Storyline: An American nurse moves to Tokyo and gets exposed to a haunting curse.

MV5BMjIxODg1Nzc3NF5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwMjM0MjEzMw@@._V1_SX214_Review (spoils): Yet another remake after the great success of The Ring. This time the film is Jun-on and it involves the queen of hotness Sarah Michelle Gellar. We have Karen (Sarah Michelle Gellar) who moves to Tokyo for work and this leads to her to a house that has a haunting and vengeful spirit. This spirit possesses and travels and kills. The haunting of a young woman named Kayako who has pale skin, long dark hair, wide eyes, and crawls due to her broken ankle.

The film works off sound effects more than anything and the scares do work well with this in mind. The acting is pretty decent and it did not stray far from the original film, such as the little boy, the noises of the spirit and the story of Kayako. Do not think of gore or blood for this film as it runs off of jumps and haunting scares.

Rating: I do not mind this remake; maybe it is because it is Sarah Michelle Gellar who always reminded me of Lexi Belle or maybe it is because it is not that bad overall. It is still not as great as the original and it is not an awesome of remake like The Ring. But it served its purpose and that was to tell a tale and to scare.
