Dead and Breakfast (2004)
Director: Matthew Leutwyler
Main Stars: Jeremy Sisto, Erik Palladino, Bianca Lawson, Gina Phillips, Ever Carradine
Storyline: A night in a bed and breakfast turns into a bloody night of terror.
Review (Spoils): A group of young people are on their way to a wedding; they get lost and end up at a bed and breakfast. There is some conflict at the location with the cook and the owner has a heart attack. When the police investigate the incident the young people are now high suspects. On top of this the young people also break an ancient wooden relic which holds in an evil demon spirit.
This film is to be taken with a grain of comical salt. This is basically a very low budget comical horror film that does enjoy the color red. We have some cheesy acting, lot of gore and blood, some one liners and of course why not zombies. This film has some prime actors and actresses and the acting done this way on purpose. It’s more like making fun of horror then to be taken serious.
Rating: Not to be taken serious at all this film which you really have to be in the mood for it or you will think it’s dumb. I was in the middle with this one as I was really in the mood for a good gory horror film. I rarely like stand up comedy with my horror but at the same time I do enjoy Jeremy Sisto. We have lots of gore and blood so if interested get your wet suit ready!
Wrong Turn (2003)
Director: Rob Schmidt
Main Stars: Eliza Dushku, Jeremy Sisto, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Desmond Harrington, Lindy Booth
Storyline: Trapped in the woods in West Virginia a group of young people get hunted down by cannibalistic men who are disfigured due to in-breeding.
Review (Spoils): This film does not have much storyline so I will narrow it down. We have a couple car wrecks and then young people meeting and than those young people trying to survive the woods while being hunted down by 3 mountain men. We don’t need much storyline to make this film fun. We have like able character such as Jeremy Sisto, we have hot chicks such as Eliza Dushku, Emmanuelle Chriqui and Lindy Booth. We go lots of blood gore and spears and arrows, some great makeup for the disfigured men that hunt through the woods looking new victims and food.
Rating: The movie is simple it has rednecks and hot girls that are not dressed for the woods. Seems simple? Yes the movie is that simple. Not great but not overly horrible but it is not The Hills Have Eyes. (the original not that awful remake)
Director: Lucky McKee
Main Stars: Angela Bettis, Jeremy Sisto, Anna Faris, James Duval, Nora Zehetner, Roxanne Day
Storyline: Lonely and strange May Dove Canady had no friends and she left insecure due to her lazy eye. Her mother bought her a goth like that doll that she left in a glass case that was her best friend all her life. She wants to connect and be part of society.
Review (Spoils): May (Angela Bettis) just wants to fit in and be normal. Have friends and fall in love but unfortunately she has some social issues and she is trying little too hard. From going to work every day at the animal hospital and sitting in her little apartment with her doll she slowly loses her mind. She falls in love with Adam Stubbs (Jeremy Sisto) as she loves his hands but ends up over doing it with her need of love. She tries to lean on the lesbian side with her friend Polly (Anna Faris) but yet again she is very needy.May just cannot find love and her true best friend and when her doll friend breaks so does May’s mind to create a new best friend and lover.
I believe Lucky McKee named it with this film. The people selected all played the parts perfectly and Angela Bettis stole the show with her role as May. She is the modern day Carrie minus the weird abilities. Both main characters Angela Bettis and Jeremy Sisto made this strange film believable and later on became known in other horror films. Bring on the symbolism and beers and enjoy this film as it is one of my favourites.
Rating: Honestly I cannot say enough about this film. I have seen it a number of times and love it. Angela Bettis is awkward but in some strange way kind of cute and her acting is amazing in this one.We have Jeremy Sisto playing the main guy that gets a little freaked out by May and he has his reasons. Plus we have hot babes Anna Faris, Nora Zehetner and Roxanne Day (bring on the goth babes) what is there not to love? This movie is great …no wait strange and awesome! Bring out the beers and think of all the strange women you have met in your past and freak the crap out of yourself. Oh and watch for the ending.
