Vampyros Lesbos (1971)
Director: Jesus Franco
Main Stars: Soledad Miranda, Dennis Price, Paul Muller, Ewa Stromberg
Storyline: A tale a young woman and her interest in the countess of seduction.
Review (Spoils): Linda (Ewa Stromberg ) has erotic dreams with about a strange woman so her doctor suggests her to start to explore this. She gets an estate run by Countess Nadine Oskudar (Soledad Miranda) which just so happens to be owned at one time by Count Dracula. The countess then attacks Linda and since that moment she starts to be treated for being insane. So the ex boyfriend of Linda and some vampire experts head out to put an end to the Countess.
This film is basically some weird dreams, some sexual lesbian erotic stuff and limited neck biting of red goop on blood. Nothing over the top gory or nothing shocking except maybe the display of art in the film. The plot line is pretty basic and nothing is really over the top entertaining. We have the beautiful Soledad Miranda parading around in stocking and dancing and biting necks.
Rating: This movie actually can be pretty boring and I even have the uncut version. I’m not sure why but I was expecting a lot more out of this film. I’m giving this a low rating as it is not recommending for everyone but it will get basic stars because we have Soledad Miranda roaming around in sexy stocking through the film and that is worth something.
Bloody Moon (1981)
Director: Jesus Franco
Main Stars: Olivia Pacal, Christoph Moosbrugger, Nadja Gerganoff, Jasmin Losensky, Corinna Drews, Ann-Beate Engelke
Storyline: A bunch of young ladies get slaughtered a language school in Spain.
Review (Spoils): We have a disfigured young man who rapes a young woman and then murders the woman with a pair of scissors. He gets sent away and 5 years later get released. Makes sense that he should be under the care of his sister and his wheel chaired mother to run a woman’s boarding school where a large number of women start to be slaughtered.
This storyline sets the tone for this 80s trashy and gory film. We have young horny ladies that are in love and looking to rebel quickly being slaughtered in horrific ways to someone can find out who the real murderer is. Some great translation overdub is used here, some burn effects, a nasty burning, some scissor attacks, a poor snake snip, some nudity, a wicked stab in the back through the breast, hangings, and lots of red!
Rating: Jesus Franco did it again with a euro trash classic! He doesn’t need a thick plot just a reason to place some beautiful women up on the screen and then place them in situations where they get murdered. This film is not a cheaply as some his past films as it holds its own and feels like a euro slasher film of the 80s era. Well worth checking out for horror fans….
A Virgin Among the Living Dead (1973)
Director: Jesus Franco, Jean Rollin, Pierre Querut
Main Stars: Christina von Blanc, Britt Nichlos, Rosa Palomar, Anne Libert
Storyline: A woman from London visits an old castle for her father will, she learns all there are actually dead and she tries to live with the darkness of them.
Review (Spoils): Young Christina (Christina van Blanc) travels to London to her family castle for the reading of her father’s will. She learns that none really live in the castle no more and that when she arrives her own stepmother is on her deathbed. She warns her to leave but dies right there.
Through dreams, introductions of a strange cast and the ghost of her father she learns that she is trapped in the castle with the undead. Throw in some erotic gothic horror and some innocence of the young girl slowly catching on what is actually happening in the castle and the people set before her. We don’t have a lot of horror unlike some of the euro trash that Jesus Franco is known.
Rating: This film is not one of the better ones from Jesus Franco but it is watchable and entertaining enough with young Christina von Blanc. But if you really want an experience of Franco films or euro trash than check out Vampyros Lesbos or Nude for Satan from Luigi Batzella.
