Review (Spoils): When a stranger calls and freaks people out this is the film that I think top it’s off.  We have a house full of women who are leaving for the Christmas holidays except for few left behind we have geeky Phyl (Andrea Martin), the drunk party girl Barb (Margot Kidder)and the beautiful and lovely Jess (Oliva Hussey). The film has lots of obscene phone calls to the house (the strange boy sound is great and eerie), the classic bag over the head, axe swings and the terrifying attic. Oliva Hussey steals the film when it came to acting in this film as she plays the innocent Jess who is secretly pregnant and her boyfriend Peter (Keir Dullea )does not like the idea of giving it up. Margot Kidder also did an amazing job playing up her character that might have resembled her real self at one time. The killer is film is just awesome and you can feel the crazy in his actions and the scene with the door and the eye is just classic.

Rating:  This to me is the best Christmas horror film of all time and outside of that it is a great slasher film. Too bad it did not get the credit it deserves. Oliva Hussey is an amazing actress and it was too bad she did not continue to become a more important scream queen in the horror industry. Skip the remake and drink to this one!

The Amityville Horror (1979)

The Amityville Horror (1979)

Country:  USA

Director:  Stuart Rosenberg

Main Stars: James Brolin, Margot Kidder

Storyline:  A newlywed family buy their first home and got a deal as someone was murdered in the house in the past. What they did not know is the house is massively haunted by a demonic ghost.

Review(Spoils): There’s nothing like it on the market. Not at this price.” No shit! This house is messed up! This is one of the most classic haunted house films out there and it deserves some respect. We have George Lutz (James Brolin) who is new to the family game and just to add to his stress he just bought a possessed house. He has his young new wife Kathy (Margot Kidder) who wants nothing more but the normal happy family. The acting both is well done for what the characters are supposed to represent. James Brolin does a great job playing the stressed out on the edge nothing is going my way husband.Too bad the bratty kids are a pain in the ass!

Now to talk about the house itself, the look of the house was very well done and the front windows (which look like eyes) will forever stay in the books of horror when it comes to haunted houses. We have classic horror scenes like bleeding walls, slamming doors and windows, cold drafts and spooky glowing eyes in the windows at night; this movie has the entire fine haunting decor.

Rating: There are some flaws in the film yes and the corniness of the psychic is blah….but over all this film is a classic haunted house story. So remember to “Get out!”
