The Descent 2 (2009)
Director: Jon Harris
Main Stars: Michael J.Reynolds, Shauna Macdonald, Jessika Williams, Anna Skellern, Gavan O’Herlihy, Saskia Mulder, Natalie Mendoza
Storyline: The lone survivor gets sent back into the caves as the police do not believe her tale.
Review (Spoils): Sarah (Shauna Macdonald) survives and gets investigate by the police as all her friends are missing (dead really) so they make her go back into the caves to retrace to find them. Not sure why they would make her go as I’m sure this is not legal but anyways that the direction the film goes. We have the same idea as the first film, tight cave tunnels, water, mud, some scary cave beings and lots and lots of blood. We get some nice dead bodies as we get back the first film and their now dead cast. But overall the film is the same except for the one surprised guest and less babes then the first one.
Rating: We have blood, shit, tight cave tunnels and less babes. Not as good as the first one but non the less not a bad film. There are some jumpy parts and some of battles are cool to watch but it did not capture which the first film had.
The Descent (2005)
Director: Neil Marshall
Main Stars: Shauna Macdonald, Natalie Mendoza, Alex Reid, Saskia Mulder, MyAnna Buring, Nora-Jane Noone
Storyline: Six women going on a caving expedition to bond and they become trapped with a strange breed of man eating predators.
Review (Spoils): Sarah (Shauna Macdonald) comes home from white water rafting with her family and they all die in the accident but her. A year later she tries to regroup her life with her female friends and they go caving. Six young beautiful women go into the booze to drink and enjoy nature. Their main guide Juno (Natalie Mendoza) does not bring the map and leads them all into a death trap by accident (by the way she was screwing with Sarah’s husband). The ladies become trapped in the caves and to top it off they are slowly being hunted one by one by a group of pale vampire man beasts that live in the caves.
We got blood in this one, nasty bites, a really brutal broken leg, a climbing hook through the head, some ripping and eating of innards. The film has some beautiful scenery (the ladies and the nature); the bonding is well done between the ladies and the movie does build well on suspense.
Rating: I really enjoyed this film; this is what horror movies are to be about. Not teenage crap over and over again. This was fresh and different and it did not need the nudity for it to work. Bring out the blood and the babes for this one!
