The Amityville Murders (2018)
Director: Daniel Farrands
Main Stars: John Robins, Chelsea Ricketts, Paul Ben-Victor, Diane Franklin, Rebekah Graf
Storyline: The story of Butch DeFeo and why he killed his family in that house.
Review (Spoils): The story is the tale of the first murders in the old Amityville house that everyone knows about. The story plays off is the murder Butch really nuts or was there something more sinister haunting the house that drove him to murder his whole family. Most of the film plays off building characters and driving the feeling into you hating the father more then anything and actually cheering for the killer. Even though killing everyone did not make total sense unless it was the evil of the house.
John Robins play the main character the eldest son Butch who never could be anything in his fathers’ eyes and he gets caught up in drugs and the occult a finally snaps that one night. Chelsea Ricketts plays the sister Dawn who is the smartest one and the biggest one with the connection to the occult. Both characters stand out and you actually feel for them. The third would be Paul Ben-Victor who you love to hate so that means he did well play the asshole.
We got the same story but more detail on what happened that dark night and why. Lots of blood, beatings, gun shots and some hauntings.
Rating: The Amityville series was always something that I never gave up on even though I should have when it came to haunting lamps, clocks and dollhouses. But the first three were not terrible. This film pays very good honor the series and to be honest should be watched if you are a fan of the originals. Plus, its got a nice little added touch at the end which makes it feel it all blends great together. Well done for that alone.
