Silent Night, Deadly Night 2 (1987)
Director: Lee Harry
Main Stars: Eric Freeman, James Newman, Elizabeth Kaitan
Storyline: The younger brother talks to a psychiatrist about his parent’s death and his killer brother.
Review (Spoils): Ricky (Eric Freeman) has grown up since when his parents got murdered and his brother decided to cut loose with an axe at his works Christmas party. He is overcome with hate and must make everyone pay for his brother demise and his target is Mother Superior.
We have some “ naughty” words, a car death, a neat umbrella death, lots of flashbacks of the first film, axe swinging, beheading, booster cables, lots of red, gun shots and of course Santa Claus.
Rating: Close runner to one of the worse horror sequels, lucky The Exorcist 2 wins that one.The recycled scenes is what ruined this film outside of that it could have been so much more, the shooting scene on the streets was actually enjoyable. If they would of ran with only new material this could have had a higher rating like the first one.
Silent Night, Deadly Night (1984)
Director: Charles E. Sellier Jr
Main Stars: Lilyan Chauvin, Gilmer McCormick, Toni Nero, Robert Brian Wilson
Storyline: A young boy watches his parents being killed by a man in a Santa suit. After being bounced in an orphanage he becomes a young man and works in a hardware store. He gets asked to wear a Santa suit for the Christmas party and all hell breaks loose.
Review (Spoils): Billy (Robert Brian Wilson) is one confused kid after he watched his parents being robbed and slaughtered by Santa after he over took their car. After being controlled and punished by Mother Superior (Lilyan Chauvin) it really brought him over the edge. Sister Margaret (Gilmer McCormick ) felt his pain and tried to help him and gain a close connection to him. He turns 18 and works at a home hardware shop and gets a crush on a cute girl named Pamela (Toni Nero) and then gets talked into being Santa for the store and his mind finally snaps! Well hardware store means axes and that his weapon of choice. We have lots of swinging going on at the Christmas party and Santa is punishing everyone for being Naughty. This movie has a great background story and it works well. Robert Brian Wilson does a great job playing the innocent boy with some mental issues and he plays an even better Santa.
Rating: This is one of the best when it comes to holiday horror. This 80s slasher is one of the best when it comes to Christmas horror. Unfortunate the series takes a downfall after this one but as a standalone the film holds its own for holiday horror. So grab some beers, a axe and deck the halls with this one.
