The Ring 2 (2005)
Director: Hideo Nakata
Main Stars: Naomi Watts, David Dorfman, Sissy Spacek, Elizabeth Perkins, Gary Cole, Simon Baker
Storyline: 6 months after the first film Samara Morgan has returned and so has the video
Review (Spoils): Some high school couple dare each other to watch the film, the girl covers her eyes and Samara returns to kill the young man. Rachel Keller (Naomi Watts ) learns of the twisted death and she starts again on the hunt to stop the video and the terror of the ghost of Samara and to protect her son.
Again with the sequels but we all knew this one was going to happen as the Ringu series if large. We have the return of Rachel and once again her acting is well done for this film but it could not save the film from the lack of sense. This film is not even close to the first one and even the CGI effects in it could not bring it to justice. We have the return of the VHS tape, some deer in the forest that randomly attack a car, the ghost of Samara wanting her mommy (really?) and a whole lot of the same shit as the first film.
The storyline in this one is very weak…..
Rating: The first film (yes it was a remake) was actually not bad and I was looking forward to this one to follow suite but instead it became and dread of boredom and lack of story. The well, the TV and the nonsense of this film killed what could have been a great series.
Land of the Dead (2005)
Director: George A.Romero
Main Stars: John Leguizamo, Asia Argento, Simon Baker, Eugene Clark
Storyline: The dead are still taking over the world and the last of civilization are walled up in a city.
Review (Spoils): the living was built a massive wall around the city to protect themselves from the walking dead. When the living start to get power hungry and fighting for leadership and dictatorship over the walled the city the dead take this as a weakness and advance.
We were waiting forever for this to be created since the last film Day of the Dead of the series. We have the survivor all walled up, the rich sitting in area called Fiddler’s Green and everyone else on ground level battling on the streets. We have a massive city well walled in with electric fences and razor wire where some of the poor people rebel against the rich and this causes the collapse. During the weakness of the people the zombies are now following the leadership of an advanced zombie known as Big Daddy.
Ok can this film be any farther away from the last film? Advanced zombies? A world that looks like it should be a sci-fi Mad Max war zone area and reads more like an action film than a horror film. I was expecting so much more with this film then what was delivered to me. I love my zombies stupid, slow moving and hungry. Juts plan and simple not this war zone type shit that this film gave me.
Rating: Low rating on this as the series over all is one of the most classic and one of the best so you need to be very careful when doing a fourth film. You can’t just deliver a shooting, futuristic film with intelligent zombies and expect the fans to jump all over it. We waited way to long for this film to be finally done to feel that it was rushed and not overly thought out in the end.
