Don’t Breathe (2016)
Director: Fede Alvarez
Main Stars: Stephen Lang, Jane Levy, Dylan Minette, Daniel Zovatto
Storyline: 3 robbers break into a house to steal money and they get more than they bargained for.
Review (Spoils): Rocky (Jane Levy) has been living a rough home life, Alex (Dylan Minette) is love with Rocky and will do anything for her and Money (Daniel Zovatto) well he wants money. The three young robbers have been breaking into houses stealing items to sell but when they hear of the money score in an old house they had to it. The catch is the owner is a semi blind man (Stephen Lang) who lives lone with a massive dog. The three thieves break into the house but when things go wrong they learn there is more the story of the blind man than they thought.
The film is very well written and does not waste a lot of time on back story which is good. It gets right to the point and when things go wrong for the three robbers you are actually cheering for the blind man but as the story comes full on you realise they are all monsters. The film is not a haunting story but more of “we need to escape story” which work well as it is fast paced.
You get some gun shots, jumps scares, hammer to the head a few times, some fighting, dog chases, a classic scene towards the end with Rocky (this is what raised the bar of the film), some dark scenes and of course some serious back and forth. Do not expect tons of gore or torture but this film did not need it to keep you glued.
Rating: First off, the film stars was by far both Stephen Lang and Jane Levy. You felt bad for the blind man and cheered him on and at the same time you were cheering Rocky towards the end. This film is very back and forth on who’s side are you on but in the end it all make sense. This film was a total surprise for me and I recommend it… such a fun film.
