Director: Tom Holland
Main Stars: Joe Mantegna, Robert John Burke, Lucinda Jenney, Kari Wuhrer
Storyline: An overweight lawyer finds himself losing weight after he was cursed by a band of gypsies.
Review (Spoils): We have an overweight and egotistic lawyer named Billy Halleck (Robert John Burke) who ash it all, the money, the beautiful wife (Lucinda Jenney) and the downright cheating ways. But one night when he was receiving a blow job from his wife while driving he runs over a gypsy woman. This leads to the band of gypsies laying a curse on the lawyer. In time he starts to lose weight and everything is fine till it over takes him and he not able to gain any weight back, it brings a deadly concern. This wrecks his marriage, his family, his career and slowly will be the death of him. He makes a deal with Richie Ginelli (Joe Mantegna) to overtake the gypsies to lift the curse.
This storyline is pretty decent and the film is entertaining. The acting is great on all accounts even if we are missing the blood and the gore. We have acid, lots of gun shots and of course the car wreck. The film has a very tongue and cheek feel to it.
Rating: We have a Stephen King story that involves blow jobs and the beautiful Kari Wuhrer what more do I have to say…..?? Drink to the gypsies!
The Langoliers (1995)
Director: Tom Holland
Main Stars: Patricia Witting, Dean Stockwell, Tom Holland, Kimber Riddle, Kate Maberly, Bronson Pinchot
Storyline: Passengers on a plane disappear and the remaining passengers land in a mysterious empty airport.
Review (Spoils): An airplane is flying and some of the passengers fall asleep but wake up alone on the plane. All the other passengers have disappeared. This leads to conflict with the remaining passengers of different personalities and cultures as the story tries to do some character build. Finally they land the plane at an airport just find that it is stranded and nothing is really left. It is like everyone on Earth has vanished. While at the airport they discover the food has gone stale, no animals or insects exist and even gravity is messed up such as when the bullet of a gun is fired it does not move.
In the end they find out they flew through a rift and strange meatball monsters called the langoliers are the time keepers and they try to devour them. They escape by flying the plane back out the rift.
Rating: This is the dumbest and one of the most boring horror films ever made. I could barely get through it and I would like my time back from watching it. Skip this film at all costs it is slow, acting is bad and the storyline is boring as hell.
Child’s Play (1988)
Director: Tom Holland
Main Stars: Catherine Hicks, Chris Sarandon, Alex Vincent, Brad Dourif
Storyline: A serial killer Charles Lee Ray transforms his soul into a doll before he is killed by police. The doll is later on bought from single mom Karen Barclay to give to her son Andy. What they did not know is the Eddie needs to put his own soul into the boys to become human again.
Review (Spoils): This movie can be sillybut really it is a serial killer trapped in a doll called Chucky (Brad Dourif ) who talks his new friend Andy into doing deeds for him, what’s not to love? We have the pretty and innocent mother Karen (Catherine Hicks) who wants anything more in the world is happiness for her son Andy (Alex Vincent)till he starts to lie and act strange out of character.Chucky has been building a false friendship with the child that he can gather trust so that he use a ritual to transfer his soul into Andy. We have lots of knife stabs and slashes but nothing for over the top gore. The film bases around the one liners and mouthiness of the walking serial toy boy. The movements and character build of Chucky himself is what makes the movie. Chucky through film becomes an icon of horror films when it comes to killer dolls. Hell if you can make a child believe “His real name is Charles Lee Ray and he’s been sent down from Heaven by daddy to play with me” you’re one evil bastard.
Rating: If you’re not offended by foul language give this doll a chance as he is one potty mouthed MF. If you can get past the annoying child this movie is worth a couple cold ones with some friends.
