Death House (2017)

Death House (2017)

Country:  USA

Director:  B. Harrison Smith

Main Stars:  Bill Mosely, Tony Todd, Nicole Cinaglia, Adrienne Barbeau, Kane Holder, Debbie Rochon, Gunnar Hansen, Dee Wallace, Lindsay Hartley, Barbara Crampton, Camille Keaton, Cortney Palm, Sid Haig, Brinke Stevens, Tiffany Shepis, Felissa Rose, Lauren Compton, Beverly Randolph, Sean Whalen, Cody Longo. Lloyd Kaufman

Storyline:  A secret prison has a power outage and all Hell breaks loose when two agents are trapped.

Review (Spoils): Not sure what everyone was thinking with this film, but it became a simple over the top gore mess. The storyline is not very detailed, and it is actually kind of jumbled. We have two agents Condy Longo and Cortney Palm trapped in a prison where a large collection of doctors (including Dee Wallace’s bad hair) has the prisoners trapped with victims that satisfy their needs. Kane Hodder is one of the main prisons badasses and as the power goes out, he starts to lead a front of prisoners.

The film does delivery the bloody goods with slashing, cutting, gun shots, intestines, some weird living zombies gore scene, cheap gas and Satan fire scene and lots of gore. The film is all over the place but we do also get a few glances of Courtney Palm topless but nothing sexy from Debbie Rochon, Felissa Rose, Lindsay Hartley or Laura Compton. (such a missed chance)

Rating:  This is a knocking dead all star cast of horror! There are more names in this film then I can even name when it comes to paying homage to horror. We have the classic villains like Bill Mosely, Tony Todd, Gunnar Hansen, Kane Holder and Sean Whalen to name a few. Over the top gore hound Lloyd Kaufman. And the horror B Queens themselves like Adrienne Barbeau, Debbie Rochon, Dee Wallace, Barbara Crampton, Camille Keaton, Brinke Stevens, Felissa Rose and Lauren Compton just to name a few! But unfortunately it could not save the film from a written mess, it just tried too hard and the finale was kind of boring and lame to the end Hansen that way.  The only thing that made the ending okay was the homage to Gunnar Hansen which was a nice little added touch which made me sad.

Hatchet 2 (2007)

Hatchet II (2007)

Country:  USA

Director: Adam Green

Main Stars: Danielle Harris, Kane Hodder, Tony Todd, Alexis Kendra, Kathryn Fiore

Storyline: Marybeth escapes from last time from Victor Crowley and gets help to seek revenge on the bayou butcher.

Review (Spoils): The movie picks right up from the last one when Marybeth (Danielle Harris) escapes the lunatic of the swamp Victor Crowley (Kane Hodder). She digs and learns some backstory truth of her own connection to the butcher (tied to her dad) and decides she wants revenge and go back in because of the slaughter from the first film.

The film brings a recast, as we know have classic Halloween star Danielle Harris now playing Marybeth. Not sure why they changed, the actor for this film but it hurts the gel of the story but then again I do not dislike Danielle Harris. We have extra gore, a more detailed Victor Crowley, a massive chainsaw, many bodies being ripped apart, heads flying, face chopping, the classic axe and the return of Reverend Zombie (Tony Todd). This film does not shy by a full cast of classic horror legends.

Much like the first film do not expect a great over the top story that makes much common sense. This is created more for the gore hounds out there that just want to see gore, blood and some nakedness (so a good chunk of the horror community).

Rating: Want some tongue in cheek gore and blood? Well your in luck as Mr. Crowley is back and this film deliveries that. The downfall of this film is a couple of things, it is a repeat of the first film in an overall thought and the humor sometimes over comes the horror and it does become a but silly. (Cabin Fever 2 fell into this problem also). For some reason this series is a hit and miss for me.

Candyman 3 (1999)

Candyman 3 (1999)

Country:  USA

Director: Turi Meyer

Main Stars: Tony Todd, Donna D’Errico, Jsu Garcia, Alexia Robinson

Storyline:  The Candyman returns but this time to get his artist descendent to join him.

MV5BMTQzOTYyNjcwNF5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTYwMjgyMTY5__V1_UY268_CR3,0,182,268_AL_Review (Spoils):  The Candyman (Tony Todd) returns after someone recalls his name 3 times in a mirror. He wants to have a past descendent to join him and she won’t so he starts to frame her for murders. Caroline (Donna D’Errico) is the great granddaughter of Candyman and she starts to get haunted on the past of her family. Candyman returns and wants her to join him so like the other films he starts to set her up as the murderer as he slowly starts to slaughter them with bees and his classic hooked hand.

This film had a few things not going for it, the music is horrible, Donna D’Errico is beautiful but really she can’t act, the repeative phrase of “Be my victim” and pretty much the same thing as the first film. We have blood on mirrors, some bees and Candyman roaming around with his cool voice slaughtering people because some babe won’t join him.

It was a warm welcome to see Tony Todd yet again play his all star role as Candyman once more but there just was not enough there to hold the film together, this film needed money!

Rating: Sure we have the hot babe and ex-wife of Nikki Sixx, Donna D’Errico but her pretty skills was not enough to hold this film together. Sure she ran around, bouncing (you know what I mean) and screaming but even Tony Todd could not save this film.

Final Destination 2 (2003)

Final Destination 2 (2003)

Country:  USA

Director:  David R.Ellis

Main Stars: A.J. Cook, Ali Larter, Tony Todd, Lynda Boyd, Keegan Connor Tracy, Justina Machado, Sarah Carter, David Paetkau

Storyline:  A vision of a major highway pile crash brings another group into the grips of death.

MV5BMjEwMDc5MDg1NV5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTYwNzIzMTg5__V1_SY317_CR0,0,214,317_AL_Review (Spoils):  Clear Rivers (Ali Larter) is in the mental hospital due to the last film where her friends survived the airplane a crash but death got them in the end anyways. A girl named Kimberly had a vision of a highway crash involving a log truck and she believes this might similar to what happened before. They discuss how everyone who did survive the fatal accident later on is on death’s shit list and he comes after them in order.

Very much the same as the first film we have a crazy accident, this time a nasty highway accident, then it’s a dream, then it really happens and then some survive and death wants them dead anyways one by one. We have a gas overdose, glass splatters, elevator decapitation, sharp pole to the head, barbed wire death, van crashes and a blowing up barbeque. Oh and the shadows of death.

Rating:  Some shit just a group of teens and deaths. The death this round are even more outrages which makes the film hard to enjoy as they are some very out of the world kills. This could have been a Japanese horror film with the crazy deaths. This is just not as good as the first film as it now is becoming repeative to the point of annoying.

Hatchet (2006)

Hatchet (2006)

Country: USA

Director: Adam Green

Main Stars: Kane Hodder, Joel David Moore, Deon Richmond, Robert Englund, Tony Todd, Tamara Feldman, Mercedes McNab, Joleigh Fioravanti

Storyline: Welcome to Louisiana boat tours where the haunting of Victor Crowley lives again in the bayous.

MV5BMTU1MTY2MzUxM15BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwMjM4NjE1MQ@@__V1_SY317_CR1,0,214,317_AL_Review (Spoils): In the Louisiana bayous a group of friends during Mardi Gras decide to go on a boat tour hosted by the strange Rev.Zombie (Tony Todd). They do the tour which involves a tour of the late Victor Crowley (Kane Hodder) who is a legend of having his face smashed with an axe from his father when trying to save him from a fire. Well they get stranded in the swamp and the haunting of Victor begins.

We have lots of swamp, babes, harpoons, alligator bites, pitchforks, gun shots, the sharpest shovel ever, lots of blood, some pole impaling and of course axes. Lots of blood for the kiddies in this one but for some reason the film falls flat. I can’t explain it really, it’s like it lost the whole point of the plot. Sure you can throw as much silly gore at me as possible but the film became so flat that I no longer cared about the characters and lost interest.

Rating: I had high hopes for this film as we have such classic horror actors like Kane Hodder, Robert Englund and Tony Todd. But even with all the unnecessary blood and gore it was not enough. The film was boring after about the first 40min and the Rev.Zombie character was something from a Rob Zombie film which is not a good thing. You want a revenge killer who got burnt named Crowley see The Burning.

Candyman 2 (1995)

Candyman 2 (1995)

Country: USA

Director: Bill Condon

Main Stars: Tony Todd, Kelly Rowan, William O’Leary

Storyline: Candyman is back and this time he is haunting a young woman whose family was connected to the killer.

MV5BMTgyNzIwOTkwN15BMl5BanBnXkFtZTYwNzIzNTE5__V1_SY317_CR3,0,214,317_Review (Spoils): Candyman (Tony Todd) is back and moves from Chicago to New Orleans. During Mardi Gras Candyman starts to haunt a young school teacher named Annie Tarrant (Kelly Rowan) as she does not believe in him and her father was murdered in a Candyman way. She becomes trapped in his seductive voice, followings and of course murder and bees. We have gruesome hook killings and learn more about Candyman’s past and how he was wrong and that’s why he haunts everyone.

The story is not as original as the first entry, pretty much the same feel as Candyman wants sweet Kelly Rowan for himself. The film delivers the blood but the there just was not enough to hold it to the same alter as the first one. They could have just left the story as is with one film, but yet again Tony Todd as Candyman rocks.

Rating: Same deal as the first one really except we have more bees and learn more about Candyman’s past. Plus you get to see Kelly Rowan before her great fame on TV.

Wishmaster (1987)

Wishmaster (1987)

Country:  USA

Director:  Robert Kurtzman

Main Stars:  Tammy Lauren, Andrew Divoff, Robert Englund, Kane Holder, Tony Todd

Storyline:  An evil djinn grants its owner of the red gem three wishes which allows him to bring hell on earth.

MV5BMTM3NzgwNDAwNl5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwNzMwOTAyMQ@@__V1_SY317_CR5,0,214,317_

Review (Spoils): The story goes that if three wishes are granted on the third wish an unholy legion of djinns is unleashed through a doorway between the outer worlds and earth to wreck havoc. Right now one djinn (Andrew Divoff) is trapped in a red gem called the Stone of Secret Fire. The stone was set in a statue which breaks and the gem gets found and gets placed in an auctioneer’s hand named Alexandra Amberson (Tammy Lauren). The evil djinn get’s released and traps people’s souls from wishes within the stone so that he can unleash the fury of the other djinn.

This film has some gore but nothing over the top we have removal of faces from the morgue, the djinn changing forms as he moves and some over the top , jaw ripping, exploding blood the gore is here in this one. Thank you Wes Craven for that! The make –up and the effects are pretty decent and too be honest the Wishmaster djinn is a classic villain for the late 80s in horror.

Rating: I liked this movie I do not understand why so many people hate this film. It is fun for what it is. We have some classic horror celebs such as Robert Englund, Kane Holder, Tony Todd making appearances and plus it also has Wes Cravens name on the tag. The series is not the greatest but this is fine entry on its own.
