The Thing (2011)
Director: Matthijs Van Heijiningen
Stars: Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Joel Edgerton, Ulrich Thomsen
Storyline: An Antarctica research team discover an alien craft.
Review: Kate Lloyd (Mary Elizabeth Winstead ) gets invited by Dr. Sandor Halvoeson (Ulrich Thomsen) to join his team as they found an alien craft in the Antarctica. In this investigation they find an alien form not far from the ship and it melts from the ice. This becomes then a blood bath as the alien beast slowly starts to kill the members of the team off and it can reanimate itself to the people it kills.
The special effects are not bad in this film but it is pretty much the same song and dance as the original The Thing. The creature is not as great and the effects are massive CGI so it lacks in this part if you compare. We have lots of blood on the snow and the movie does move well but it is pretty much a repeat. We got dogs, snow, blood, and an alien that can change on will, gore and the same damn story as John Carpenters.
Rating: Ok for a prequel you think you might want to do more than just rewrite the original The Thing. It was so bad that I thought I was watching a remake till the very end and then I was oh it’s a prequel. Which yes gave it some bonus points as I hate remakes but at the same time I was stunned on nothing is different. So minor beers for a prequel which is the same of the original which in truth was not the original but a remake of The Thing from Another Planet .
