Dawn of the Dead (2004)

Dawn of the Dead (2004)

Country: USA

Director:  Zack Synder

Main Stars:  Sarah Polley, Ving Rhames, Mekhi Phifer, Ty Burrell, Lindy Booth, Michael Kelly, Kevin Zegers, Jayne Eastwood, Jake Weber, Kim Poirier, Inna Korobkina

Storyline:  Survivors of the zombie outbreak trap themselves in a mall and try to survive.

Review (Spoils): Remake time yet again and this time this is with a massive classic. I personally put this one off for a long time to see as I was not crazy about the idea. We have Ana (Sarah Polley) trapped with a group of misfits within a mall as they plan to escape and live somewhere else in a world full of zombies. While they all work together on how to escape and why this is happening in the world, they also find out each other dirty laundry.  The film bases mostly on them trying to work together and stopping the spread of the zombie infection.

The film does stray away from the original script by a lot which is a good thing and they dropped most of the comedy stuff from the original. Yes, we have some unique characters and the build is not bad. The eye candy from the film is there as Sarah Polley (the hero), Lindy Booth (the silly young one that does stupid stuff) and Kim Poirier (the bubbly blonde). All three of them did a great job and I did not dislike them.  Ty Burrell did an amazing job also as you wanted to hate him, and he played the part very well.

Now to what I did not care for, the young pregnant couple was painful. Mekhi Phifer and Inna Korobkina characters were not enjoyable and not even smart in anyway and they seemed to be out of place. The acting was poor, and I cheered for the zombie baby. Bad selection on actors.  The second hurting unit of this film was fast moving zombies, I hate fucking running zombies.

We got lots of gun shots, zombies bites, a zombie baby with glowing eyes, some cool skin rot special effects, a gross fat undead woman, some chainsaws, and more zombies then you can track. The gore is not over the top as the original, but the zombie action is there.

Rating:  Going to be honest here, this film was not bad for a remake. It stayed away from the original enough to not hurt it and yet it did pay homage to it. The ladies were great, and I was glued to the screen to see how this all is going to work out for them. The movie was not bad but like I have said many times I really hate fast moving zombies and once I saw them go, I was kicked to the curve on thought.  But overall the flick was fun and entertaining for a zombie movie. Well done Sarah Polley! As a side note was Kim Poirier trying to be Sherri Moon? (it worked for me).

Piranha 3DD (2012)

Piranha 3DD (2012)

Country: USA

Director: John Gulager

Main Stars: Danielle Panabaker, Ving Rhames, David Hasselhoff, Katrina Bowden, Meagan Tandy, Jean-Luc Bilodeau, David Koechner , Christopher Lloyd,

Storyline: After sometime a new water park opens and the piranhas are back.

MV5BMTg0OTQ2MTkxNF5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTgwNjkxMjczNDE@__V1_SX214_AL_Review (Spoils): The series continues where it left off which flashbacks, the basic storyline is a dirty uncle (David Koechner )wants to make money so he opens an adult water theme park even though his niece (Danielle Panabaker) who is half owner id against it. During this time some rednecks disturb the eggs of some piranhas when moving the body of a dead floating cow. The nasty species makes its way to the park where the T&A becomes a bloodbath.

We have the very cute Danielle Panabaker trapped in this silly continuation of the series. We have lots of blood in the water, exploding cows, lots of T&A, some lame storyline of nerd boy loves the girl but she likes the dirty cop story, a penis scene that was dumb and of course the Hoff. There is lots of floating hands (not sure why piranhas don’t eat these…must have been a box deal on floating hands), some chuckles and some stupidity such as the machine gun in the leg. The highlight of the film is the T&A, Danielle Panabaker and David Hasselhoff. The piranhas were so fake it was impossible to even take it a bit serious, more fake then the bimbos in the film.

Rating: This film failed but at the same time was still watchable. The last one was not horrible but this one should be the nail to the coffin of the series. There is cheesy fun but this kind of was leaning too much on the dumb side, much like a Troma film but unfortunate not one.
